Hey there and welcome! KP Home is a full-service interior design firm based in the glorious and character-filled city of Chicago. At KP Home, we believe that your home should be as unique as you are. We combine beautiful design with your experiences, personality, and taste to create a masterpiece.
The best transformations aren’t always about tearing things down. Sometimes they’re about bringing clarity to what’s already there.
Emily and Dan’s Logan Square townhouse had all the potential. Great light, an open layout, and just enough character. It just needed direction, a sense of cohesion, and that feeling that everything belonged together instead of simply coexisting.
This project is especially close to my heart. Emily is one of my closest friends from college, so getting to be part of this chapter for her and Dan was really meaningful.
They’re newly married, settling into their first home together, and preparing to welcome their first baby this spring. It’s a full and exciting season! Emily travels often for work, so having a home she genuinely loved coming back to was a big priority.
Their lifestyle is centered around simple, intentional moments. Slow mornings with coffee, long walks with their goldendoodle Clark, trying new restaurants, and hosting relaxed dinners with friends. That rhythm shaped so many of our decisions throughout the home.
Their previous condo was a mix of pieces collected over time. It worked, but it never quite felt cohesive. Moving into this townhouse was an opportunity to start fresh and create a home that felt aligned, elevated, and truly theirs.

The goal was to create a space that felt grown up but still approachable. Something that could evolve with them as they step into this next chapter of building a family. Entertaining was also top of mind. They wanted a home that could hold casual dinners, weekend hangs, and those spontaneous “come over tonight” kind of moments.
The design inspiration was beautifully specific. After a recent trip to California, they fell in love with the relaxed sophistication of Cara Hotel. That Palm Springs chic aesthetic became our north star. Emily naturally gravitates toward a slightly more eclectic look, while Dan prefers clean and simple. The magic here was finding that balance.

The home itself had great bones and an open concept layout, but like many open spaces, it felt undefined. The scale wasn’t quite right, and without intentional zoning, everything sort of blended together in a way that felt unfinished.
Our work here was entirely furnishings focused, but that doesn’t make it any less transformative. In fact, I’d argue it requires even more precision. Every piece has to work harder. The difference really does come down to the details.
This cozy living room really set the tone for the entire home…

At first glance, a soft, monochromatic palette with warm undertones feels simple. In reality, it’s anything but. When everything lives in the same color family, texture becomes the story. We layered in boucle, linen, wood, and subtle marble to create depth without relying on bold contrast.

The marble coffee table is one of my favorite elements. The veining brings in just enough variation to break up all of the soft solids, and the curved shape softens the strong lines of the sectional. I also love how the tones pull into the rug beneath it — nothing feels disconnected. It gives the center of the room a sense of movement while still keeping everything calm. I think Clark likes it, too. 😉

Space planning is always important, but in an open concept layout like this, it can make or break a space. There aren’t walls to do the work for you, so each piece has to pull its weight. The sectional is large enough to anchor the room without overwhelming it, and the rug is intentionally sized to hold both the sofa and chair so the whole area reads as one cohesive conversation zone.
Even the spacing between the coffee table and seating was something we really dialed in. All of those small decisions are what make the room feel balanced, natural, and easy to live in.
The dining area sits seamlessly within the main living space, but we still wanted it to have its own identity…

We kept the color palette consistent with the living room, but introduced slightly richer wood tones to ground this area and give it a bit more presence.
The round pedestal table was a really intentional choice here. Not only does it fit the scale of the space beautifully, but it also keeps the flow feeling open and easy to move around, perfect for this kind of layout. Paired with the upholstered chairs, it brings in just enough softness while still keeping everything feeling clean and minimal.
And then there’s the light fixture, which does a lot of the heavy lifting…

The layered ivory shades almost feel like they’re in motion, with these soft, fluttering edges that give it a really organic, sculptural quality. There’s a slight pleating to the material that adds just enough texture, and when the light filters through, it creates this really warm, diffused glow that feels so inviting. It’s almost like a floating piece of art above the table. Hard not to look at it when you walk into the room!

The artwork was another important layer. The foundation of soft neutrals ties back to the rest of the home, but those subtle pops of coral, ochre, and muted blue bring in just enough color to keep things from feeling flat. It leans into that playful and cheerful Palm Springs vibe in the best way.
Now onto one of the most important rooms, especially for soon-to-be parents…

Emily said it best herself. This has become her favorite place in the home, which is music to my ears. We wanted this space to feel like a true exhale. Calm, minimal, and layered in a way that feels effortless but still really thoughtful. The kind of room you actually want to retreat to at the end of the day (or for a midday nap).
The custom upholstered bed was a key decision here. In a room like this, proportion matters so much. Too small and it feels a bit lost, too large and it overwhelms everything around it. We landed on a scale that really fills the wall and creates presence, while the soft, textured upholstery keeps it feeling warm and inviting rather than heavy. It anchors the entire space in a way that feels both substantial and easy.

From there, we layered in pieces that bring both warmth and function. The raw wood nightstands add a bit of grounding contrast against the lighter palette, and the brass pivot sconces are one of my favorite moves in a bedroom. They free up surface space, give you flexible light for reading, and add that soft, ambient glow that makes everything feel a little cozier at night.
The bedding was intentionally kept tonal and textural. The soft neutrals and subtle pattern is simple, but it feels really inviting, which is exactly what you want in a space like this.

Finally, in the corner, we carved out a quiet little moment with that muted blue accent chair. It’s such a pretty, subtle contrast to all the warmth in the room, and it creates a natural spot to land. A place to read, to pause, or just take a quick break.
We kept everything calm and cohesive, layering in cozy textiles and warm lighting to create a space that truly supports rest. Whether it’s winding down at the end of a long travel week or sneaking in a little nap, this room was designed to hold all of it.
This project is such a beautiful reminder that you don’t need to renovate to completely transform how your home feels. Thoughtful furnishings, intentional layouts, and a clear vision can truly change everything. What I love most is how aligned this home feels with who Emily and Dan are right now. It’s welcoming, relaxed, and ready to hold everything that’s ahead for them. As Emily shared:
“Words can’t adequately describe how grateful we are for all of your help and how happy we are with our home. It’s a night and day difference from where we started and we definitely couldn’t have done it without you. My bedroom is my favorite place now.”
That’s really what it’s all about. I’ll always have a soft spot for furnishing projects like this. They may not involve construction, but the impact is just as meaningful…sometimes even more so.
If you’re in a season of creating something new in your home, I’d love to be part of it.
Warmly,
Kristen
